Description:
SOLD...Antique 1860 Colt conversion 1st model. Here is a pretty decent Colt 1860 conversion. Caliber is in the .44 Colt center fire. Black powder ammo is available through many sources on theand all the components to hand load are also available. I shoot these converted guns alot and they are very accurate shooters. This one is S/N  192277 and all matching of course. Still has the original 8" barrel that has NOT been cut and restored like so many of these have been that you will find. The mechanics are excellent. A very crisp and tight gun. NO cylinder wobble and very little if any front to rear movement of the cylinder. Rock solid barrel to frame fit also with NO movment..The gun just has traces of the original nickel plating remaining. Just a little on the barrel around the ejector housing and on the rear of the frame and on the conversion plate. A little remains on the hammer sides also. The brass trigger guard has about 30& or so original silver plating. The balance of the metal is a pretty smooth deep brown heavy patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. Has some bumps and dings from an honestly used frontier revolver and just a little pitting on the conversion plate and a few spots on the cylinder. Nothing bad at all or very detracting from the gun. ALL the markings are excellent. The cylinder retains about  60% scene. It is a little hard to see because of the heavy patina but it is there as you can hopefuly see in the photos of the cylinder. If you wanted to clean the cylinder a little the scene would absolutely show up much better but I will not touch it as this the way you want them to look like. So many of these guns have been cleaned on and messed with. This one is straight up and honest. Still has the original ejector housing, rod and head. Most of these have been replaced on this model as the ejector head is easily broken on this model and have been replace with ones from the Colt SAA or have been homemade. This one is still all original.!!! The barrel wedge only is a modern replacement... The bore is very good with strong and sharp rifling with just some minor roughness. The chambers are pretty clean also and have not been modified or messed with. Hammer notches are all correct and positive. Spring loaded rebounding firing pin works perfectly. It is a great shooter with proper black powder loads of course. The grips are good and show a small chip on the toe of the left side. Shows honest wear on the right side toe. Has one small surface crack on the left side also. The right side has four very small decorative pins as you can see in the photo. A few dings on the bottom. They fit very nice and tight and look to be original to the gun. The screws for the most part are clean and not all burred up. The front trigger guard screw is the worst.. Untouched front sight.. These Colt conversions are the very first big frame frontier cartridge revolvers that were being converted in 1867 and into the 1880's. Many of these have seen VERY hard use and abuse and finding one even in this no finish condition is getting harder to do. Not very many ever made also and many have had the barrels cut shorter. Here is one that won't break the bank and about as cheap as you will find that is still excellent mechanics and never messed with. This one is priced quite a bit lower than the much nicer one I have listed as the condition and finish is just not quite as good. I think a very reasonable price here.
