SOLD A fine original watercolor painting by Alexander Harwood...born 1873 died 1943. Harwood was a well known "Pierhead Painter" He worked most of his life as a fish porter. He was a prolific amateur artist and painted hundreds of portraits of Aberdeen Trawlers, working in watercolors, oils and gouache. The steam trawler John Fitzgerald was built in 1917 at Duthrie Torry, Aberdeen Scotland. Launched Dec. 10, 1917. It was acquired by the U.S. Navy and commisioned UST John Fitzgerald May 30, 1919. The painting remains in excellent original condition, unframed and measures 20 inches wide by 12 1/4 inches tall. Harwood's painting are rare and desirable and many museums in Scotland retain his work in their Nautical archives.
