Description:
French 12 ga. SxS boxlock, non-ejector by Brun-Latrige: The gun has 27 ½” steel barrels and choked IC/Mod. The double-trigger boxlock action is chrome-plated in the fashion of many French guns and weighs about 6 lbs, 2 oz. The Serial number 10356 is matched throughout the gun. The fences are high-relief engraved with holy-leaves and berries indicating quality of this gun. The remainder of the furniture is scroll engraved with light coverage.
The gun’s locking mechanism is double under-bolt with a third fastener on the top lever. The top lever and an action flat are marked “SuperegLobLoc.” I suspect that this is a trade name for the lockup mechanism. The action flat is also marked “Femeture Reglable,” translated “adjustable lockup”. The action has side clips. The action locks up like a vault.
The barrels are marked “Diamant Acier au Creuset” translated “Diamond Crucible Steel,” demonstrating the use of high-quality steel in the barrels. Proof marks indicate that the gun was proofed and 16,000 psi. The inside of the barrels have been recently polished to a mirror finish, but a few minor pits remain in the right barrel near the breech. The barrels have also been re-blacked (re-blued) to a high finish. The swamped-rib is machined.
The stock is straight-grained walnut and has been refinished. LOP is 14 ½ inches, DOT is 1 ½ inches and the DOH is 2 7/8 inches. The forend has an Anson release.
