Description:
Purdey records show this fine shotgun to be completed in 1897 for A.J. Drexel. This would lead one to believe this was for well known banker and partner of JP Morgan, Anthony Joseph Drexel but looking up his history I found he died in 1893, four years before this gun was completed. He did have a son by the same name born in 1887 but he would be ten years old when this gun was built. Could it be at age 10 he was ordered a bespoke Purdey? Regardless, this gun needs no pedigree as it stands alone and radiates its craftsmanship and beauty 117 years after it was completed. I am enamored with the deep chiseled fences! The gun comes with a second barrel set that Purdey indicates were made for the gun in 1971. Both Barrel sets are in fantastic condition.
