Description:
S# 11838, 12 GA, 2 3/4 inch chamber, 31 inch barrel, no choke, very good bore with areas of light erosion. This interesting well traveled shotgun remains in excellent condition with about 40% case colors on lock, hammer, sling bar, and US marked butplate. Barrel retains 70% blue, fading brown in areas. The breech block has Belgian Perron and star over N proofs inside and has been touched up with cold blue. Hammer screw shows minor slot damage. Stock has a two inch grain crack behind top tang and shows typical dings and handling marks. Front sight is a very tall bead. These guns have a very interesting history. As described in John Walter's Rifles Of The World, third edition, about 1600 rifles and 6600 carbines were sold to France. After serving the Gardes Mobiles in the closing stages of the Franco-Prussian War, many of these Joslyn's were seized by the Germans. Sold to Belgium, they were ultimately converted to shotguns and shipped to Africa. These conversion are not often seen here in America, and they are quite scares in this fine condition.
