Description:
NSN (Service #94), .44 Caliber, 6” octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some spots of freckling within the grooves. This revolver was built under license in Belgium for the Dutch Navy and retains 80-85% of a typical Dutch East Indies arsenal re-blued finish with the balance of the metal having the numerous small impact marks so often found on colonial service guns, as well as gray fading and silvering along the exposed edges and projections. The frame has the “(crown)/AF” mark of Auguste Francotte on both the frame and cylinder with a Dutch service marking at the very front of the frame: “DH/94”. The cylinder, which has a broken nipple, has correct “AF” markings and Liege proofs, with a non-matching Dutch service number on the rear of the cylinder (“28”). The “AF” marked loading lever is a bit loose since the retention flange on the barrel has worn through use. The rounded butt walnut grip has numerous small handling marks and small blemishes along the oil finished wood and has a curious stamping inside the inletting: “IIIV++”. The mechanism is functional in single-action, however the trigger only advances the cylinder when used in double-action. These revolvers have a very low survival rate and are a great memento of Holland's colonial past. This example rates very good condition overall. {Ref. “Nederlandse Vuurwapens – Landmacht, Marine en koloniale troepen 1866-1895” by B.J. Martens & G. de Vries; 2000} Antiqu
