Description:
This is a Colt Single Action Army Cavalry Model made in 1874 and inspected by Ainsworth. The revolver has matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, back strap bottom, cylinder and the barrel. The top of the barrel has the correct single line address in Italic letters. The bullseye ejector is in great condition but has no finish remaining. There are A markings on the following, bottom of barrel, cylinder and the top of back-strap. There are P proof marks on the cylinder and bottom of the barrel. There is a C stamp inside the hammer well. On the left side is the correct 2 line patent dates and U.S. in larger block letters. The 1 piece wood grips have had a light sanding or are worn down some and no cartouche remains. At some point in the past 141 years the revolver has had a light cleaning and some of the writing has thinned. The small A behind the serial number on the trigger guard may be there if you have a bit of an imagination. The screw on the bottom of the grip will not come out so we do not know if the grips are serial numbered to the gun or not and cannot see if the number on the loading gate matches inside of the frame. The bore has some frosting but is very strong. The screw holding the cylinder pin looks to be a replacement and there is no dimple on the end of the cylinder pin. All in all this is a nice and very early Colt Single Action Army from the first batch of Ainsworth guns. This is an Antique.
