In addition this pistol has one nice cartouche stamped on the left side of the grip and in lieu of a second cartouche, the number "21" appears with some obvious military significance. It is either a military inspection mark, a regimental or unit mark or ??. The lock stampings are quite legible. In addition to the manufactures name we have ( at the rear end of the lock) "Midd. tn " and the year of manufacture, namely " 1852". The 8 & 1/2 inch bright steel barrel and the lock have almost no staining or other non original marks.. The top of the barrel is stamped : "U.S.", "WN", and "P". There is a captive ramrod and front brass sight . All of the brass is also in excellent condition. The wood has very few marks and no cracks, splits, etc. There is a small chip on the left side near the barrel forward of the hammer.
