VIRGINIA PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE SIGNED A. MCGILVRAY CIRCA 1850’S. 56” overall with 40 ½” octagon .45 caliber deeply rifled octagon barrel with double gold bands at breech and signed with maker’s name. Engraved steel open work patch box and engraved mounts. Double ornate silver wedge escutcheons. Silver cap trap on belly of stock. Cheek rest inlaid with silver eight point star and silver wire floral inlay. Engraved back action lock with “A. MCGILVRAY” stamped on tang. Fine overall with plum brown finish on barrel and mounts a medium grey Very crisp engraving. Nice wood with light checkering at the wrist. Double set triggers in good working order. Very good bore with well defined rifling. All original including the ramrod. Alexander McGilvray was a well known maker from Harrisonburg, Virginia. Price on request.
