Description:
Francotte Knockabout Custom 28 Gauge SxS Shotgun
 ***REDUCED PRICE***

ROSE & SCROLL ENGRAVED, FIGURED STOCK, NICE!

General Specs: Auguste Francotte, 1958, 28 Gauge, 4lbs 14oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 1182

Auguste Francotte is world famous as a high quality firearms maker from the gun making center of Leige, Belgium dating back as far as 1805.  Still making fine shotguns with price tags starting at $18,000, Francotte is a brand recognized and used by heads of state, business tycoons, and in some cases, the fortunate "Average Joe".  This fine little 28ga. double was produced in 1958 as your basic "Knockabout" with little decoration.  It is now finely engraved with 75% coverage of fine rose & scroll adorning the coin finished receiver, trigger guard, and breach end of the barrels.  Knockabout guns usually have very plain wood, with little figure and simple checkering.  This little bird gun has been expertly restocked with well figured wood with drop points, 28 line per inch checkering, and a checkered butt.  Balanced perfectly on the hinge pin and weighing just 4lbs. 14oz., it is a delightful gun in hand.  The gun was originally sold by Abercombie and Fitch and Griffin & Howe has the original information on the gun.  It appears the was upgraded to its present state after leaving their shop in 1959.   This is a very well done, tasteful upgrade to a well known and dependable ejector boxlock action at a cost of over $6500 just for the upgrades.  With its double under bite lock and 3rd cross bolt fastener, you have a very dependable and gorgeous little quail or clays gun at an affordable price.
