Description:
L.C. Smith Specialty Grade 12 Gauge SxS Shotgun
TRAP CONFIGURED, VENT RIB

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1929, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 15oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 123299

In the world of L.C. Smith shotguns built after 1912, the Specialty is a well appointed gun, with generous engraving, nicely figured wood, finely checkered, and equal to a Grade 3 gun of other makers, ie DH Parker, C Grade Fox, etc.  They made over 4800 guns in Specialty Grade 12ga., so they are not rare, but not profuse either.  But this gun, serial number 123299 built in 1929, is special.  First, it has every factory option including ejectors, Trap style beavertail forend, double ivory beads, single selective trigger, ventilated rib, and factory pad.  AND IT HAS FANTASTIC WOOD with full feather crotch exhibition quality walnut.  Without a crack or split anywhere, great screws, excellent wood to metal fit, this gun is a gorgeous heavy duty 12ga. for clays or game. This is a lot of gun for the money in the world of fine shotguns.  Where else can you find such a beautiful, functional doublegun with a ventilated rib and stunning wood for under $5K?   Vintage American double guns fully optioned like this fine Elsie are a treasure, and a solid investment that will grow in value as fewer and fewer such examples survive use and abuse.
