Description: SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model.38 DA. Here is a good example of an honest and not messed with 2nd model DA Smith & Wesson. This model is a little hard to find in good condition as these were made from 1880 to 1884 and most show hard use. This is S/N 93096 and all matching. Very close to the S/N of the other one I have listed. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel. .38 S&W black powder caliber.. This gun does have some original nickel finish and is a little hard to tell as the finish blends in so well with the metal surfaces but here is what I see. The barrel has just traces of finish. The cylinder has 20% and it is all mostly down in the flutes. The frame has 50% or so including the front and rear grip straps. The balance of the metal is a smooth aged gray patina with some spots of staining turning to a light brown patina in areas. NO pitting on the gun. The screw heads show some turning but all are serviceable. Untouched front sight. Traces of case colors on the hammer and trigger. NO blue remaining on the barrel latch or the trigger guard. The mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun. It works perfectly in DA and SA mode. Both hammer notches are perefct. NO cylinder front to rear movement and NO side to side wobble. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. Good bore with strong rifling and with some light roughness. The chambers are better and will clean to excellent with no roughness. The grips are excellent with NO cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit. The checkering shows the correct wear to the gun. The markings are all excellent as well. Nothing real special here but an honestly used little S&W 2nd model DA in the larger .38 caliber. Gun show use but NO abuse. Just does not have a lot of finish remaining but at a reasonable price for these harder to find 2nd models. $15 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
