Model 1842 Austrian Carbine in good condition. 30 inches long with a 14.5 inch barrel originally purchased out of North Carolina. Rifled barrel fired a .71 massive Minie ball. They were purchased and imported by both the Federals and the Confederates early in the war in their pursuit to rapidly arm their forces with whatever they could get their hands on. Most of the Federal ones were drilled for a ram rod and issued in the Western Theatre. There are images of Confederates with this same carbine with no ram rod. Could have fired the massive .71 caliber Minie ball or loaded with buckshot. This one had a light surface rust that I gently wiped down/mostly removed with Remington oil and a rag only. Cleaned up nicely and displays great! Wood is in excellent condition with some minor dings only. No repairs. No markings other than the number "12" on some of the screws, trigger guard and carbine bar on left side. Figure 8 carbine rings are MIA. Action works great! Great price on a Civil War hand cannon! Great Civil War era carbine that will not break the bank. Will gladly provide more photos if needed. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
