Offered for your consideration is this classic Mannlicher Schoenauer 1903 carbine in 6.5x54MS caliber. The barrel is 18 inches and has a bright excelllent bore. The rear barrel sight has been removed and a Lyman 36 hinged peep sight is mounted on the bolt release. This beautiful little sight pivots out of the way when the bolt is cycled and is an ideal hunting sight. The barrel retains 85-90% factory blue. The action is mechanically excellent, feeds, chambers and ejects smoothly. The receiver ring top has some thinning blue that looks like carry wear. The stock is solid and tight, no cracks, chips and serious dents. The checkering is still sharp with two small compressions on the left wrist panel, nothing deep and would clean up if desired. The steel buttplate retains 75% blue and the trapdoor functions nicely, and the 4 piece cleaning rod is in place! Factory varnish is at 90% with numerous small handling/hunting marks and some carry wear on the left side between the receiver sight and forearm checkering panel. Test firing turned in a 3 shot 5/8 inch group at 40 yards using 140 Gr. bullet, 36 grains IMR 3031. Mannlichers are throated for the 160 gr. bullet so I seat the 140 gr out past the cannalure, not recommeded for hunting loads. The headspace is perfect. Overall a fine, sweet shooting vintage Mannlicher that has seen some careful use and no doubt has put some game on the dinner table!
