REDUCED TO SELL!!!!! This Colt Dragoon was purchased from a man, who as a boy was working as a helper with his dad at Fort Clark, Texas just before WW2. He and his father found this well used jumbo six shooter in the rafters of the Robert E. Lee Barracks and kept it as a relic for two generations until recently selling it to Dave Taylor Civil War antiques who sold it to me. I obtained the notarized letter from its original owner here in San Antonio stating its origins. The barrel and rammer are true Colt dragoon Third Model 1854 production parts from Colt’s factory in Hartford Conn. The back half (frame, cylinder, grips, etc…) are from a Belgian or Austrian brevette Colt Dragoon. It is marked on the loading lever with the Roman Numeral III and inside on the cylinder pin with the identical Roman Numeral markings III which are documented Confederate gunsmith Arsenal markings. Obviously a Confederate Arsenal gunsmith took two broken dragoons and combined parts to make one serviceable revolver as the South desperately tried to put into service all the weapons that they could at the beginning of the war. During its period of use the hammer spur was broken and someone filed jagged notches in the back to allow a shooter with a strong thumb to still be able to cock the hammer despite the missing hammer spur. It is fully functional. Examination of the cylinder shows that at an even later time a gunsmith began boring out two chambers for metallic cartridges, but gave up. Grips are in excellent condition with six "kill marks." Metal on both front and back are matching with no pitting. It is missing the loading lever retention pin. Will include a reproduction loading lever retention pin and Dragoon hammer should the new owner want to replace them. I kept it in its original state to preserve it's Texas History and originality. Here is an affordable Dragoon with a solid Texas history and most certainly with the CS Arsenal markings was Confederate used increasing its value even more. Used well before, most assuredly during and after the Civil War.
