Description:
Ithaca Grade 3E 28 Gauge SxS
RARE GUN, FLUES MODEL, EJECTORS

General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1924, 28 Gauge, 5lbs 8oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 354463

For the vintage American double gun enthusiast 28ga. guns are the ultimate prize.  The 28ga. is the perfect gun for quail, grouse, and woodcock being light and quick, yet deadly on these thin skinned birds.  Of course those who desire a greater challenge use the 28ga. on larger birds as well, especially behind pointing dogs.  The mystique of the 28ga. is that only two of the major makers of side by side guns in America produced them; Parker and Ithaca.  Those that chase 28ga. guns are well aware that the Parker 28ga. guns on there proper "00" frame start at over $13,000 for the basic VH Grade without ejectors and run beyond $20,000 for high condition VHE guns, the plainest Parker made.  If you ever see a Parker Grade 3, or DHE grade for sale in a 28ga. it will break the $50,000 mark.  That is the beauty of the Ithaca offerings.  They are very fine, functional guns for less money.  Here we have an Ithaca Grade 3E, ENGRAVED BY THE FAMED JOSEPH LOY AS NOTED BY HIS ENCRYPTED INITIALS (if you don't know his signature, ask) with ejectors, sn354463 made in 1924, one of less than 50 ever made, for a very affordable price.  Weighing just 5 1/2lbs. with 26" fluid steel barrels choked IC/M 9.004/.014), nicely figured wood with nice oil finish and perfect fancy checkering including ribbons and checkered side panels, this is a beautiful gun that floats in your hands.  This gun is in excellent mechanical condition, with barrels being tight on the hinge pin and breech face with no wiggle, crisp double triggers, tight ribs on the barrels and only a slight hint of light pitting near the muzzles in both barrels.  All healthy and useable for decades to come.  Small bore 28ga. American vintage side by sides shotguns are wonderful investment guns.  Ithaca guns will be the next to see a strong growth in value as they are well made guns that more and more collector/shooters are starting to notice.  Don't let this one get away!.
