The pommel is in excellent condition throughout, with no hits to the rim. The sunwheel swastika has gilding, but is faded on one leg slightly The crossguard also has sunwheel swastikas on both sides; these swastikas are slightly brighter than those on the pommel, but this is the way the sword has been for many years. The guards are the usual tripartite style, swept downward to simulate the look of wings. Each quillon has excellent detailing to the “feathering”. The grip is constructed form carved wood that has been covered in fine blue Moroccan leather. This original leather shows only the most modest traces of wear. The grain is still all there, and it is tightly wrapped with dual strands of springy aluminum wire. The scabbard is straight throughout, and is covered in the original Moroccan leather. There are some traces of use along the edges, but the areas have darkened so they hardly show at all. Overall this leather is in excellent condition, nicely matching that seen on the grip. The scabbard mounts are the standard aluminum type, both in excellent condition. They are retained by four headless screws. The blade of this example measures 28 ½ inches long. It is bright throughout with a good nickel-plated surface. There are a few minor age spots in the plating, mostly at the upper area, but overall the blade is still excellent. The matching blue leather blade buffer is in place. A good Luftwaffe sword here, which is priced to sell. Please contact me with any questions before you bid. Shipping is actual cost to your location with insurance. This is easily a $1200.00 sword in this condition!I have listed the matching dagger acquired from the same person, if you like to purchase both as a set, please contact me. I reserve the right to end this if the sword sells locally (gun show) SOLD |
