#2097, Griffin & Howe Inc. New York: A 270 Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Barreled Action Made by G&H about 1952, Engraved by Ralph Alpen. He was a factory engraver at Ithaca Gun Co. from 1967 to 1971 and engraved with Bill McGraw. A 24" Winchester factory barrel with an integral front ramp and no barrel sights, Lyman 48 receiver sight base without the slide but has a blank fit in the base, G&H side mount that is installed by G&H with blind screws inside the rail, Lyman 2 1/2X Alaskan scope, Two panel teardrop bolt knob checkering, Canjar set trigger, Winchester 3-position Model 70 safety, Jeweled bolt and follower, Classic G&H stock with a ebony forend tip, Wrap around point pattern checkering, Steel grip cap, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eyes on the stock, Gold escutcheon, 13 7/8" LOP over a Winchester steel buttplate, 8 lbs. 3 oz. without the scope & 9 Lbs. 1 oz. with, Excellent piece of wood with excellent color & contrast, Very nice engraving by Ralph Alpen with 3 Gold inlays, His work is signed, The blue is 97%, The stock finish remains at 96%, The checkering is 99%, The bore is excellent plus. This is a very nice Griffin & Howe from a period that had a lot of contributions to the future of America's classic custom rifles.
