Sold......National Postal Meter M-1 carbine, .30 cal.
Buffallo barrel dated 11-43 with flaming bomb ordinacne mark. The barrel bore is bright and sharp with an undamaged crown and shoots as to be expected. The sights are correct. The reciever still maintains olive drab color just like it should.
This rifle was issued during the Korean War and returned with the soldier from whom I purchased it. Sometime following his return to the states he sanded the wood and applied a colored finish to dress up his companion in battle. The proof marks on the stock are not there and evidence of the sanding is easily seen where the butt plate and wood meet. Also there is additional evidence of the sanding around the reciever screw behind the rear sight. Slight but there.
The soldier applied finish is easily seen on the barrel band retainer spring not removed before the finish was apllied. Also the left side picture into the sling recess shows the color variation and application line of the soldier applied finish.
Recesses in the wood still hold dirt and debris from long ago, which will be there when delivered to the next owner.
I bought this carbine many years ago to shoot, and did. The price of this old piece of history reflects the condition of the wood and metal. This one is not a runway model.
