Description:

Italian Flintlock pistol by Diego Zanono. (Signed Die Zanoni) on the lower beveled edge of the lock. Stockel lists Diego Zanoni as working in Brescia in 1750. Barrel length is 11 ½“ and overall length is 17 ½“. Metal parts are chiseled in relief. Mechanically perfect. Stock has leaf carving and the stock has no chips or cracks. Like many guns made by quality Italian makers, this pistol was made for the Middle East market. In keeping with the Middle Eastern fashion the ramred is actually a carved part of Woodstock and therefore looks like the gun has a ramrod. But in fact does not. The frizzen face is grooved, again in Middle East style. Barrel has 5 makers or city parks. This is a well made and finely chiseled pistol. We have noted in previous descriptions of European guns made by quality gunsmiths for the Middle East market that collectors overlook the real legitimacy of this aspect of collecting. There are some excellent books on Middle East guns and well worth reading.
