Description:
Serial #B560, .303 British, 30” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid L.S.A.-made, London proofed rifle that has retained 90-95% of the maker refreshed, commercial blue that has silvered at the muzzle and along the high edges and projections. The blue fades slightly into a plum-blue color along the bands and on the Metford style nosecap. The matching numbered bolt has some further silvering on the bearing surfaces, and traces of World War II era Suncorite along the edges, on the cocking-piece, and within the letters of the “W. J. JEFFERY & CO. 13 KING STREET ST. JAMES'. LONDON S. W.” marked dust cover. The rifle is still equipped with the original tangent rear sight and a Parker-Hale 6A rear sight has been mounted in place of the rear volley sight. The walnut stock is in excellent condition with several minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the added oil finish, and the handguard has a few hairline with-the-grain cracks along its length. The rifle comes with a chained ten round magazine and a period brown leather sling that has dried slightly along the edges, but remains supple and fully serviceable. This is a spectacular Long Lee target and competition rifle, regulated and accurized by one of the most respected names in British gunmaking.
