Description:
This lot consists of three World War II British and Canadian service medals (Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and 1939-1945 War Medal), along with a very well-made swagger stick with applied Canadian Medical Corps hat device, painted black and red decorative accents, and a crisply lettered id: “L.D. MELANSON/G-4492. R.C.A.M.C./BORDEN". The medals are in fine condition with some blue-black tarnish present on the silver plate, and a tiny amount of soiling on the ribbons. The swagger stick, as said previously, is very well-made and has some minor handling marks along its length with wear to the paint, heaviest at the ends. The service records for Leo Dominic Melanson of St. Johns, NB are also included (with regards to the craftsmanship of the swagger stick; he was a woodworker by trade in civilian life), which tell the story of an unfortunate man whose neuroses eventually overcame him, forcing him to be discharged from the army on medical and psychiatric grounds (as attested to on his PULHEMS test results). Nevertheless, this is a very nice lot of Canadian World War II items and would make a great addition to any collection.
