Description:
Fox AE 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun
FACTORY BEAVERTIAL, FIGURED WOOD, CONDITION!

General Specs: Fox, Year 1940, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 14oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 303720

Finding small bore GRADED Fox guns with ejectors has become difficult in the last several years as the public has become aware of the superiority of the Fox gun.  Finding a 16ga. AE with factory beavertail and lots of factory original condition is even harder.  This Fox, sn303720 shipped on 1940 is just such a gun.  With 65% bold factory case color, 97% factory blue, 93% factory charcoal blue on the trigger guard, perfect screws, perfect mechanics, and a very well figured stock that exhibits superb wood to metal fit and checkering, as well as good shooting dimensions, we have a gun that is a  premium Fox.  It is very rare to see beavertail forends on a Fox gun, even more so on the lower AE Grade.  Having 28" #3 weight barrels choked LM/F (,016/.029) and balanced 1/8" ahead of the hinge pin, this is a great clays gun and will be equally at home in the field.  Use RST spreader loads to make it a IC/M pattern without altering the gun.  The ejectors are strong and well timed, triggers crisp, and the stock measures 14 1/4" LOP to the factory plate, 2 3/4" drop at heel, 1 5/8" drop at nose of comb, and neutral cast and there is way more figure in the wood than most any A grade I have seen.  Search theand you won't find another gun like this one, and yes, it is a Savage gun.  But if you examine the gun instead of the barrels stamps (as Michael McIntosh recommended in his book on Fox guns) you will see this gun is a finely made Fox, superior to most Philly guns in all ways.  It even has factory 2 3/4" chambers and is ready for heavy 16ga. loads.  We have a factory letter for this gun and a copy of initial factory order card.  The card shows the gun shipping in 1937, the letter says 1940.  There are some interesting details about this gun in the records which show the gun was returned for alterations before being shipped in 1940.  I believe that is when the gun acquired the factory beavertail.  A good Fox guru will know how to identify a factory beavertail...this is one of them.  Call me if you want to discuss the factory records on this gun.  A great buy on a Premium Fox.
