Description:
Marlin Model 1893 Rifle - Cal. .30-30 - 26" Bbl. - SN 163XXX(1898) - ANTIQUE.   Perfect near mint bore - bright with sharp rifling and no signs of corrosion or wear - excellent action with good lock up and crisp ejection.  Metal is excellent with no rust, pits, or corrosion - sharp markings and excellent screws.  Barrel and magazine tube retain 99% blue - forend cap 95h% - receiver has 95% to 98% brilliant case color with slight wear on bottom - hammer has 99% - lever about 90% and the crescent buttplate about 75% thinning colors.  Front sight is a Lyman "globe" style  folding combination with ivory bead - the rear sight is the Lyman 21 receiver sight with the proper "J" stamp for the Marlin 1893.  These sights may not have come from the factory with the rifle, but are proper period sights for this Marlin.  I suspect that at one time, this rifle had a folding tang sight - although there is no visible mark on the upper tang, the upper front comb has been altered to accomodate a folding tang sight.  This was done in such a way that the comb  could be rounded and finished or "pieced " to improve appearance if desired. The wood is excellent overall with no cracks, splits, or gouges - the forend shows some scattered surface scuffs and marks from normal handling and the butt  has a small scrape on the left side and one on the bottom  plus a few minor surface  scuffs and dings.  This is an exceptionally nice early 1893 in excellent or better condition with lots of color remaining and showing only minimal use and wear and except for the buttstock alteration, all original throughout.  Included email letter from Cody makes no mention of the Lyman sights, but I understand that this is not uncommon for this era in Marlin record-keeping.  Overall, a super nice old antique  Marlin that will make a great shooter, collectible, and investment piece  !
