This is an Enfield marked, 1912 dated rifle that has conversion markings on the wrist band: “IV*” stamped below the original production markings where the “III” has been crossed out. The metal retains about 90-95% of the armory re-applied blue finish and has some faint plum-brown freckling and gray fading along the high edges and surfaces. The matching numbered bolt is in fine shape with a “U” marked .22 bolt head and a No. 4 style grooved cocking-piece. The receiver has a large “C (Broad Arrow)” Canadian property stamp on the left side just behind the acceptance proofs and the stock disk on the right side of the butt is unmarked. The stock and handguards have numerous light-moderate handling marks under the added varnish finish with a barely legible, non-matching serial number on the underside of the forend just behind the nosecap. The brass buttplate is marked “112” on the door of the compartment and both an unmarked magazine body and original canvassling are included. This is a nice .22 conversion that rates very good overall. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R (600) SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Enfield Model: SMLE Serial Number: U640 Caliber Info: .22LR Gauge Info: .22LR |
