Civil War Henry Rifle
  • 44 Henry rimfire caliber
  • Made in 1862
  • Barrel address "Henry Patent OCT 16 1850 Manufact'd The New Haven Arms Co. New Haven CT"
  • Frame is a beautiful patina mustard color
  • Action is very good, feeds and ejects well
  • Magazine tube works great
  • 24" barrel with very good lands and grooves and traces of blue remaining
  • Has early rear mounted adjustable ladder sight
  • Barrel, frame, butt plate, and stock have matching serial number
  • Stock has traces of original finish
  • Butt stock has 4 brass tacks denoting the Calvary unit it was in
  • This rifle is one of the rifles purchased by George D Prentice who armed captain James M. Wilson's company M, 12th Kentucky Calvary. This Calvary was one of the few units in the Civil War completely equipped with Henry rifles (104)
  • Serial number range of Henrys for Kentucky Calvary were #600-800
  • Wilson's Calvary used the Henry to much benefit in defense against southern forces and these engagements are documented. One such being in October 27th 1863 where they engaged John Morgan's advance across the Cumberland river with 375 men. Wilson only had 67 men but drove the Confederates away after killing 31 and wounding 43. Wilson lost 6 killed or wounded in comparison
