Description:
LEN BROWNELL ~ TAYLOR & ROBBINS **NOW $5995
Very high quality custom Mauser from the 1960s. The Taylor & Robbins (marked on the barrel) firm was in Rixford, PA. Taylor & Robbins were known for benchrest, accuarcy rifles and most likely fit and chambered the barrel. The rifle displays a combination of German engraving and American craftsmanship.

Full stock of European walnut, under the buttplate is very neatly carved “L.M. Brownell, Stockmaker”.  Master craftsman Leonard Brownell of Wyoming stocked the rifle.

(Brownell designed both the M-77 and the #1 Ruger stocks for Bill Ruger.)
The 21” barrel, caliber .243 is perfectly inlet and the forend trimly shaped, as Brownell was very experienced making full stock rifles. The checkering is about as perfectly accomplished as is possible with a mixture of Fleur de lis and point patterns.

The metalwork sports a sliding tang safety (Brownell style) along with a two-position wing safety, lever release hinged floorplate, a spoon type bolt handle, double-set triggers and deep relief chiseled engraving. I think the engraving was done in Germany before the stockmaking.

The rifle weights 8lb 14 oz., it has a 13 ¾” length of pull and is 41” overall length.
The stock sports a highly engraved steel Niedner style buttplate, schnable type steel forend cap and a relief engraved steel grip cap with a leaping whitetail deer.

There is a ramp front sight for looks but no rear sight. A Redfield “Bear Cub” 4x scope helps date the rifle. Redfield Gunsight Co. purchased the Kollmorgan Optical Company in 1959 and offered the Bear Cub until 1964. I from the style I would think this rifle was built in the 1960s.
