Description:
Halfstock Flintlock Fowler by W. Ketland, .54 caliber with 34” barrel. Barrel has toned to an even plum brown patina throughout with top flat marked “LONDON” with two British proof marks adjacent to the location marking. Lock, hammer, frizzen & spring show about 10 % original case-hardened finish with the balance toned to semi-bright pewter. Lockplate is marked “W. KETLAND” & is surrounded by light pitting. The smooth walnut stock rates good to very good with some dents & dings from the years & a crack along the front left side of the forend leading to a repaired chip which is surrounding a cross pin. There is a small crack along the bottom of the forend starting from the ramrod entrance pipe & a pair of cracks starting at the upper tang. An oval monogram sits atop the wrist with a bell at the base & a shell at the top; a decorative floral brass sideplate & a brass buttplate are present also. Original ramrod is present.
