Remington M40
Up for sale is a very special tribute to Chuck Mawhinney. This is a custom made rifle sanctioned by Mr. Mawhinney as an accurate reproduction of his field rifle he used in Vietnam. Chuck racked up 103 confirmed kills and 203 probable’s with his modified Remington 40X and as such the production run was limited to 103 pieces. This piece is 57/103. It comes with the original article featured in the NRA publication American Rifleman where there is an article featuring this gun and the story behind his illustrious career. The rifle is unfired with the exception of a test fire at the factory. It is in perfect 100% condition. There are only 103 or these out there lost in collections. I have not previously seen any come up for sale. This rifle is a near exact reproduction of Mr. Mawhinneys M40 service rifle built on a Remington 700 platform. It sports a heavy duty GA Precision free floated alloy 24” barrel with a 1:12 RH twist. The receiver is stamped as CBM8541 which designates his initials and Military Occupational Specialty. As Leopold had bought out Redfield, they approached Leopold to recreate the Redfield 3x9X specially produced for the M40.
