Description:
U.S. Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield Second Model Revolver chambered in .45 Schofield, serial number 3,XXX manufactured 1876. Features matching numbers with Government standard 7” barrel with blue finish. Standard markings including patent & address stampings as well as Government issued “US” stamped on bottom of backstrap. Left grip panel retains visible cartouche along with “1876” beneath it. The second model was produced from 1876-1877 with a total of 5,285 being supplied to the U.S. Army. Condition is very good; frame has 30% plus original blue with a molted brown patina. Some scratches & minor light pitting. Grips are fine as lightly sanded & a small repair towards the lower-forward left panel with some minor dings, mechanically excellent. Included with Smith & Wesson factory letter confirming this revolver was shipped on October 12, 1876 delivered to The National Armory, Springfield, MA. This shipment was for 3,000 units & they all had 7” barrels, blue finish & smooth walnut grips. Solid example of a highly desirable Original Configuration U.S. issued Second Model Schofield.
