General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1924, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 6oz, Side by Side Serial Number: FW69148 Here we have a very common gun---they made 37,000 Field Grade 16ga. guns! So when we talk value on vintage American double guns, rarity certainly is a big issue. On par with rarity in determining value is the amount of factory finishes remaining. This is where this gun stands ahead of 99.5% of the 37,000 made. IT RETAINS VIRTUALLY ALL OF ITS ORIGINAL FACTORY FINISHES AND IS LIKELY ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF AN UNMOLESTED FIELD GRADE ELSIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. Serial number 69148 left the factory in 1924 during the times the guns still were light and well balanced. Weighing 6lbs. 5oz. and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin, it is what a "sweet Elsie" is supposed to feel like in a 16ga. At least 90% of 16ga. L.C. Smith guns weigh over 6 1/2lbs., many over 6 3/4lbs., some over 7 pounds. This is a dynamic Elsie that will put a smile on a knowledgeable gunners face. The gun has a nice configuration with 26" barrels (only 7000 made with 26" barrels) factory choked IC/F and mirror bores, 14 1/4" LOP to the factory butt plate, crisp double triggers, tight on hinge and breech face like the new gun it is. The gun has been in the field and the wood finish has a few minor marks in it, but hey, the gun is 91 years old! Look at the screws, the wood to metal fit, the checkering...it all screams "UNTOUCHED". If you ever wanted to have a representation of what a new L.C. Smith looked like in your collection, and to take afield to pursue the upland game it was made for, this is the gun. As time goes by, there will be fewer original guns ever encountered in this condition. This is an investment grade firearm and worth the premium price we are asking for it. Like an old friend who has now passed used to say "Where you ever going to find another one?" You won't find one like this any time soon. Don't miss the chance to own this one. Thanks for looking.
