III military rifle, but is equipped with the simple dual backsight designed for use by the British Home Guard in World War II (reminiscent of the simple dual aperture sights fitted to No. 4 rifles during the war). The rifle retains about 80-85% of the original blue with the balance turned to mild freckled plum-brown patina and mild gray fading, especially along the projecting edges and surfaces. The matching numbered bolt exhibits some handling and usage marks along its body. The full-length walnut military stock has been nicely refinished over numerous minor handling marks and minor blemishes scattered throughout under the added oil. Extensive military markings are present on both the barrel breech and right side of the buttstock (which is surcharged with a small “71” in white paint). Also included with the rifle is a U.S. Model 1907 leather sling with RIA maker mark. The sling is heavily flaked and has extensive crazing along the edges but is still intact and quite supple nevertheless. This is a very nice and seldom seen example of a true Home Guard Ross and is in very good-fine condition overall. {Ref. “The Ross Rifle Story” by Phillips, Dupuis, and Chadwick; 1984} FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Ross Model: M10 Serial Number: 50556675 Caliber Info: .303 Gauge Info: .303 |
