Exceptional J.M. Marlin Ballard No. 6-1/2 Offhand rifle chambered in 40-63 Everlasting, circa 1881. SN 5308 is listed for this model in J. Dutchers book on Ballards (p189). This 6-1/2 Offhand rifle sports a 30", part round/part octagonal barrel and case colored receiver. The bore is fantastic for its age, very shiny with crisp rifling. Barrel bluing is very good, appearing to be all original, turning to a light patina in areas. Receiver shows substantial original case color for its age. The nicely checkered fore-end and butt-stock fit very well culminating in a Swiss style buttplate. Single standard trigger. Short Mid Range Vernier tang sight and standard windgauge front sight. This is an antique so no license is required.
