Description:
What a beast! Serial number 131XX indicates this was made in 1938, and its in gorgeous shape! The 24" "Straight Taper" barrel has a bore that is as close to as-new as we could hope for. This barrel was the standard for first year production, then it changed to the standard contour barrel. The metal on this matching-number rifle is amazing. This is early enough that it was ALL factory slow rust blued, giving it that satin sheen that makes these rifles really stand-out. The Zeiss Zielklein scope has crystal-clear optics, and is mounted in a Griffin and Howe steel base that has micrometer windage on the rear ring base. At 10-1/2 pounds, the stock is also pretty stout and made of a beautiful piece of walnut. The pre-war fine checkering is in spectacular shape and the large 1-1/2" sling swivels are present and accounted for. Pull is 13-1/2" over a fresh factory logo pad. A blank silver initial shield is inletted forward of the heel and gives the stock a really tough and distinguished look. Rear sight is a Lyman 48 in great condition, and front blade appears original, but has some impact scarring at the bead. There's minor thinning blue on the bolt knob, top of safety lever, right side of scope tube and the sharp edge around the muzzle. There are minimal small handling marks only, on both the wood and the metal, and NO red flags. Like to disuss or make a reasonable offer? Email or call, for further details.
