Beattie & Co., 104 Queen Victoria St., London: James Beattie Henry Jones Double Screw-Grip Underlever Rebounding Hammer Double Rifle Made about 1893 in a 500 3" Black Powder Express with 27" Steel Barrels with a dolls head rib extension, A full length rib with 1 standing & 1 folding rear sights, Percussion style fences, Lever forend release, 14 1/2" L.O.P. over a part checkered steel buttplate, 9 lbs. 8 oz., Horn grip cap, Sling eyes, 60% coverage of period scroll engraving; Both the forend and buttstock have been replaced, I don't know who did it but trust me they were a top drawer professional in every detail and every respect; The style, the inletting, the checkering and the finish is as good as it gets, Excellent English Walnut wood with great color and contrast, The barrels with an excellent reblack and are absolutely well done and remain at 99%, The stock finish is at 98%, The checkering at 100%, Fresh case colors and they remain at 100%, The bores are excellent to near excellent plus with solid grooves & lands and without any pits and have almost no surface blemishes, The striker holes have no primer burn and they are bushed, This is a very stout classic BPE double that has a lot of life to go and completely ready for the 21st century. The gun comes with a set of loading dies and several cartridge cases. //////////////////////////////////////// James Beattie was born in 1793 in Chilton, Buckinghamshire. In 1832 he was recorded as a gun maker and percussion cap maker. In 1847 James and his brother Henry formed a partnership, J & H Beattie, and traded from both 223 and 205 Regent Street. James died in March 1877 and the name was changed in 1879 to James Beattie & Co and it moved to 104 Queen Victoria Street, the address of this gun.
