ROCKINGHAM COUNTY VIRGINIA SCHOOL PERCUSSION LONG RIFLE CA. 1850’S-60’S. 44” octagon .45 cal. rifled barrel signed on the underside at the breech with the barrel maker stamp of “W. PANNEPACKER” but no maker signature. Elongated two screw barrel tang in the Virginia fashion. Tiger maple stock with finely done molding panels along the forend. Leafy floral engraving on the brass mounts. Back action lock stamped “TRUITT BROS. & CO.”. Double set triggers. All original except the hammer screw and the rear lock plate retaining screw. Working lock and excellent bore with crisp rifling. Other rifles from Harrisonburg area seen very similar and with the same lock plate maker. With associated bullet loading block and measure.
