SHORT RIFLE, CALIBER .40-60 MARLIN (.40-65 WIN.), WITH FACTORY LETTER LISTING BARREL LENGTH OF 24" AND BEING SHIPPED IN 1885, A really fine condition example, almost all of these "short barrel" 1881s have been cut down standard 28" rifles with factory letters that don't mention the barrel length, exc. deep blue on barrel and mag., exc. markings, original buckhorn rear sight with original Rocky Mountain blade front sight, EXC. BORE, receiver shows fine deep blue with minor thinning and normal edge wear and top and bottom wear, exc. screws, still shows some light case color on the lever sides, tight action, original steel butt plate, exc. wood with tight wood to metal fit, looks like it has two tiny filled swivel holes in bottom of stock only- very minor, this is a great early 1881 with lots of condition and rarity!
