Description:
1985 manufacture date. 12 gauge, 2-3/4″ chambers. 28″ and 30″ Chopper lump barrels are both fitted with narrow, swamped, concave game ribs, engraved “J. Purdey & Sons” and with Audley Street London address. Barrel flats are stamped with 1985 London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with serial numbers and barrel makers initials “AS” (Tony Smith). Importers name and address is engraved in very small lettering on bottoms of right barrels (G & H). Typical Beesley patent self opening sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved in typical Purdey house style with well cut, small scroll surrounding rose bouquets. “J. Purdey & Sons” is at the bottom of each lockplate, as well as on bottom of action over “London” and “England”. Trigger guard is engraved with larger open scroll, and has the serial number at grip. Well marbled and somewhat figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/4″ over a dark brown leather covered pad. Stock features American fluted comb, typical drop points, and checkering. Individual gold initials “MJR” are inlet on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release, and actioners initials “BD” (Ben Delay Jr) are on iron. 28″ BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.728. Bore restrictions: left -.023 (Imod), right -.010 (IC). Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs 13 oz. Length of pull: 15-1/4″. 30″ BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.728, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.015 (mod), right -.010 (IC). Wall thickness: left -.035, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs 15 oz. Length of pull: 15-1/4″. Very fine tan leather motor case by Huey (no. 1534) has brass corners and inset bail type brass carrying handles on ends. Interior is lined in burgundy suede, and has lift out tray for action and forend, covering barrel compartment at bottom. A gold embossed black leather Purdey label is in lid, along with charge card for this particular gun. Case contains Purdey marked two piece black nylon and brass cleaning rod, with mop and brush in covered compartment. Top tray is french fitted for turnscrew, which is in another compartment still wrapped in original tissue. Also included is a Purdey marked square oil bottle. Condition: Excellent, near new, with evidence of only very light field use, retaining essentially all of its finishes on wood and metal, with just a hint of silvering on the sharpest edges, and the lightest of handling marks in wood. Mechanically crisp, except right ejector live with 30″ barrels (most likely needs lubrication). Case and accessories are excellent.
