Rather unusual to find a decent exterior and yet a worn bore in one of these massive derringers, as they certainly were not “target pistols” with high usage …this guy must have REALLY used this hand cannon! Mechanically, it has a somewhat sticky breech swivel, but otherwise seems in good working order. The exterior has about 75-80% nickel and very good markings, but does have some pitting on the breech portion as hopefully can be seen in the photos. The original grips also show a lot of wear from being carried in a pocket. Possibly this was some bankers hide-out gun, or a lawmans secondary weapon …someone who carried it day after day and often found reason to practice with it, thus putting an unusual amount of wear on the bore. These were the largest cartridge derringer made in the USA and being the 44RF cartridge, it certainly packed a whollop! VG++ $795 SOLD Antique: Yes |
