Description:
#4911 Colt 1860 Army revolver, 8”x44caliber percussion, fairly early manufacture (serialed in the 31XXX range – early 1863), very good action and bore, light scattered pitting on the outside with a very good cylinder scene about 65-70% visible and good barrel address and serial numbers. The grips are the weak part of this most famous of the Civil War revolvers. Some battle weary soldier (or bored saddle cowboy if done after the War) has personalized this old veteran with initial carvings on both grips …and not a particularly good job at that. Add to this, the grips have detrimental chips at the toes and general wear overall. The ’60-Army was the highest production issued revolver in the War, and by far the simplest to repair. Any knuckle-dragging brain-dead farm boy could repair a Colt revolver …and that was a VERY important issue on the battlefield. Except for the grips, this is about VG to VG+ overall. $1595
