Description:
NSN, .69 caliber, 44 1/2” barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This musket is patterned on the Springfield Armory Model 1795 and has an overall dark gray and plum-brown patina with some light pitting at the breech, heavier around the touch-hole. The mottled gray-brown patina continues on the lock which has a clear and crisp “JENKS,S/RI/1813” stamp at the rear and a visible, but indistinct, federal eagle between the cock and the pan. The frizzen has been refaced due to usage wear and the touch-hole itself opened up and redressed, probably done at the same time. The walnut stock is in very good condition with a period, armory re-applied oil finish, scattered minor handling marks, and some grain separation at the buttstock from drying. The musket comes with a correct metal ramrod and has a fully functional lock. Steven Jenks & Sons were a Providence, RI maker who contracted both to the US and Rhode Island. Their US contract was for 4000 muskets and this example rates very good plus overall. Antique
