Some wear to hand grip area and near the iron tip. Approximately 75 to 80% of the bark which is covered by a clear lacquer remains intact. The button to release the blade from the body of the cane protrudes from a pewter ferrule (it looks to be pewter and a magnet is attracted to one part of the ferrule....therefore it could be a sheet of iron with a tin plating giving the apperance of pewter). Blade has 99% of it's fire blue with gold wash in and around the engraved decoration. This type of decoration was prevalent in the 1790 to 1820 period.....after 1820, the most common decoration was a polished/etched floral design without the gold wash or fire blue. The cane is of light weight thus making it fashionable for both ladies or gentleman as was practiced during this period. A very fine and rare item fit for an advanced collection or museum. Sold as an antique for display only. Please see all photographs and ask any questions prior to buying as return only if not as described and must be in the same condition as sent. SOLD |
