Fine smooth action and serialized in the #62XXX range which dates this rifle to early 1890 and very near the end of the Model 1876 production. Being the lowest production model of the pre-1900 antique lever actioned Winchesters, this impressive large rifle is much above the average for what is usually seen for a ’76 in this price range. It has about 20% thin plumming blue mixed with smooth grey-brown patina on the barrel and the frame has at least 70% coverage of a 70% density fine original blue remaining on fine metal. The edges are sharp, no appreciable pitting, fine markings, and it has VG wood with no serious slivers, gouges, or damage, just the usual light bumps and bruises of its 125 year life. Desireable “Long Range” ladder rear barrel sight and pinched blade front sight, standard trigger and crescent buttplate …and has the five piece cleaning rod set still in the butt compartment. Overall a this is a very handsome and always impressive rifle with a very fine bore. About VG+/Fine. $3850 SOLD Antique: Yes |
