Description:
Beautiful Pre War Model 70 Stocked by Tom Shelhamer. Has original Winchester Barreled action, and this is one of the .300 H&H versions that Winchester produced with a 26" rust blued barrel. Bore is perfect, and this rifle has a few handling marks in the stock, and slight muzzle wear, but it is clear this rifle has been used very little to this point. Stocked by the incomparable Tom Shelhamer in a well figured stick of Walnut, and beautifully done it is. Tom's stamp resides under the buttplate (see photo below). The metal retains what appears to be its' original Rust Blue finish, as the letters are crisp and not rounded off in any way. There is a rear sight blank in the factory rear sight dovetail, and the front factory sight and hood are in place. Swivels are Super Grade Style, and the factory forend bedding screw is utilized also. Neidner style Buttplate, as expected, and a Buffalo Horn forend tip. Grip cap is a steel two panel affair. A steelWeaver 6x scope resides in a detachable Griffin and Howe sidemount. RIfle weighs 9 pounds 5 ounces with the Weaver Steel Tube scope. The rear bridge is not drilled, as is the case with Pre-War model 70 receivers. Correct Pre War Winchester Safety. The Diamond pattern checkering is executed perfectly, and this rifle is a superb example in a great caliber suitable for anything in North America, and most everywhere else, for that matter. The .300 H&H is a classic that feeds beautifully, and if any cartridge can be called elegant, well, this one is it. Please look at my other listings, and thanks so much for your interest.
