Ithaca Gun Company's last model of double shotgun was the "NEW ITHACA DOUBLE", or NID model. Built from 1926 to 1949, only 45,000 were produced in all gauges and grades, with a majority being Field grade 12ga. guns. Ithaca high grade guns are special amongst the American double guns, as they are superb mechanically, equal to other makers in quality, had wood far more figured, grade for grade, than their competitors, and checkering patterns that simply overshadowed the next best maker. The NID action is brutish in strength and graded guns are nicely engraved with game scenes and scroll. This Grade 4E, sn450049 built in 1927, is a great example of these features, with highly figured walnut, elaborate flor-de-lis checkering, and nicely hand chiseled game scene engraving. Retaining 60% factory case color, it is a factory 2 barrel set configured with 28" barrels choked SK/LM for your close-in game and clays, and a 30" set choked IM/F for your longer range needs. The barrels were filed and contoured at the factory to create a gun that balances and weighs nearly identically with either set, and the gun is light and dynamic in hand. With the great modern shooting dimensions, this is a special Ithaca with wide ranging versatility. So we have strong "factory condition" in a fine gun, but this is a relatively rare gun as well, with only 560 Grade 4 Ithaca NID guns made in 12ga. That is a very low number of guns! Not only will this beautiful gun handle all of your 12ga. shooting needs, it will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use. Most surprising of all is the extremely good value you get when you buy an Ithaca double gun. You simply get soooo much more for your money. A Parker Grade 4, or CH grade, would cost over 2 times as much as this Ithaca! Same with a Fox XE 2 barrel set. THIS IS A GREAT DEAL ON A GREAT ITHACA GUN!
