Description:
One of the very last of the original L. C. Smith’s made (Brophy lists 56800 as highest number). 12 ga. 2-3/4″ chambers. This unusual gun has 26″ barrels with high raised rib (single sighting plane), fitted with two ivory beads. Top of right barrel is stamped “L. C. SMITH – 12 GA – IDEAL – FULTON, N Y USA”. Barrel flats are stamped with serial number, grade, and chamber length. Bottoms of barrels are stamped “London Steel”. Case hardened action features automatic safety and double triggers, and is engraved with typicalIdeal broad acanthus. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Nicely flame figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over ribbed composition buttplate to front trigger. Original non-ejector late skeet style beavertail forend, although not fitted with ejectors, this forend has knurled secondary lock. PROVENANCE: L C Smith Collectors Assn. Letter. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels retain nearly all their original bluing, thinning slightly toward breech ends. Action and lockplates retain 90% or so of their original case hardening color, silvered on high edges, fences, and thinning on bottom of action from normal handling and use. Trigger guard retains most of its original bluing, flaking and browning at grip. Stocks retain most of their original glossy rubbed oil finish, thinning in spots. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny throughout. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Bore diameter: left -.732, right -.736. Bore restrictions: left -.022, right -.016. Wall thickness: left -.044, right -.039. Drop at heel: 2-9/16″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Weight: 7 lbs. 11 oz, Length of pull: 14-1/4″. There is a factory letter with this gun.
