Description:
This is the Zimmer Schuetzen style pub rifle with "Noris 339" (likely a serial number?) on the bbl. No other markings on the gun and no visible proof marks. Target shooting competitions were held in pubs and other gathering places and were very popular in Europe in the late 1800's. What they used was a very low powered rimfire cartridge usually in 4mm which would be equivalent to a bb and our 177 pellet. Only the front part of the bbl of these were utilized. The bbl length is about 7-1/2". The rest of the bbl was just for aiming and they had a very long firing pin. This is quite an elaborate rifle with a highly exaggerated deep dish cheek piece and a large thumb rest on the stock. The bbl shows it's age with light freckling throughout the metal. Overall good to VG. The stock has survived very well for it's age. A cool part of this stock is that the top point of the Schuetzen or Swiss butt unscrews and holds a cleaning rod. These are very unique rifles.
