Description:
This is a fine example of an early 18th C. British hunting sword pistol combo. The only marking is a proof on the barrel that is from a private maker from Bermingham England. The strait saw-back blade has 2 deep narrow fullers. This is the first of these that I've seen with a saw-back. As you can see, this sword saw some action. Many nicks. The hilt is of all iron mountings with clasic shell counter guard. The grip is 1 piece carved horn. The barrel, pan, fizen & spring are mounted to the ricaso. Remove the fizen to get to the barrel mounting screws for easy cleaning. The rest of the action is mounted to the tang inside the grip. Unscrew the tang button & the pommel & grip slide off. All fits nice & tight when asembled. All original parts are here. But the tumbler & main spring are broken. If I find a good gunsmith & have parts made before it sells, the price will go up.  30" overall, 24 1/2" blade. 3 1/2" iron 45 Cal. barrel. This piece can be viewed in the data base at OldSwords
