Description:
AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR "CLAMSHELL GUARD" HORSEMAN'S SABER, CIRCA 1775-6. 36" overall with 31" blade with three narrow fullers associated with New Hampshire origin swords. Walnut grip. Distinct "clamshell" iron guard. Beautiful deep old patina on metal. 100% original. A typical and popular form of American hilt usually found as a short sword or "cuttoe" and scarce in a large horseman's saber. We know of one other almost identical in size. Excellent provenance.
