What a shame to have such a great bore when the cartridges are unavailable! Manufactured in the 49XXX range (1870) and having some unknown company or ranch “rack numbers” stamped both on the left side of the receiver and buttstock. Overall, the metal is quite superior on this musket, the brass has minimal (if any) defects aside of the rack number, and the barrel has liberal amounts of dulling blue with good density and just a small amount of speckle pitting scattered overall. The barrel address is fine and it has the Henry style rear barrel sight, small lever, and butterfly latch. The VG butt stock does have an epoxy repaired crack on the right side running from the top tang downwards toward the toe of the buttplate and the forestock has a few slivers, bumps and bruises but all in character with the gun as a whole. It might be noted that the musket configuration is, by far, the scarcest of the three 1866 styles, and this musket is a WELL above average specimen with a super nice bore. VG+ to Fine overall. $4750 SOLD Antique: Yes |
